Our Food Cupboard is open every Wednesday and Friday from 9:30am to 12 noon. Thanks to food donations from Siloam, Arva, Rowntree United, Hillcrest elementary school and several special events such as birthdays and other parties, we donate food items to many families. But we could not do this with the food donations alone. We are forever thankful for the generous funding from the Sisters of St Joseph as well as cash donations.
This program started with funding from the Westminster college foundation and continues to flourish. Every Wednesday, either ELUCO, Knollwood Baptist, Siloam United or Valleyview Mennonite volunteers meet at the Salvation Army Citadel on Huron street to prepare and serve a very hearty lunch to approximately 70 persons, primarily from north-east London.
The Glen Eagle Scholarship Fund has awarded grants to several post-secondary students from the Marconi Community over the last few years to help pay for their tuition or books, allowing them to continue their studies. We have helped many young people to meet their academic goals. One recent recipient graduated from Fanshawe in Recreation and Leisure and is now attending Brock University in Sports Management. Another student is in Political Science at Brock University with her sights set on Law School. If you would like to make a donation to this fund, please contact Nancy Howard.
85 families participated in the Christmas Share this past year and an additional 15 families were referred to the Salvation Army. One family from Marconi was provided with gifts thanks to the teachers and staff of River Heights Public School
One of the best things about summer is a week at summer camp, filled with super fun outdoor activities and making new friends. Unfortunately, for some of our children, it is one of the few times they actually get to just be a kid. We regularly send kids to Kee-Mo-Kee, Stevenson Children's Camp, The Boys and Girls' Club Camp and YMCA camps. If you can sponsor a child for summer camp, please contact us. We especially appreciate volunteers who can drive at this time of year.
